California has one of the fastest growing senior populations, with those belonging to the over 60 age group expected to increase by 166% between 2010 and 2060. As such, seniors who are based in California will be happy to learn that there are a number of benefits being afforded to them, ranging from Medi-Cal to Social Security Retirement (SSR), and more.

Here are some of the most common options:

Medicare

As a nationwide health insurance program for those aged 65 and above or with disabilities, Medicare is one of the most popular options on this list. Medicare assists you with healthcare costs and expenses, and you can choose which type of coverage you need.

Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal is the state’s federal version of Medicaid. Those from low income backgrounds or with disabilities can make use of Medi-Cal. You will automatically qualify for this program if you already qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) offers financial assistance through monthly income, for those above 65, and low-income individuals who are blind or disabled. In California, you can get $954.72 if you are living independently, or $1,598.14 if you are a couple. To qualify, you must meet certain requirements for countable assets.

California CalWORKs (TANF)

CalWORKs is a California welfare program for low income seniors and families. It provides both cash assistance and services, through county welfare departments. You need to be either underemployed or unemployed to qualify for this program. You will receive money every month to cover food, housing, and other expenses.

These are some of the many benefits available to seniors in California. Contact us at Bliss Drive today if you want to learn more about this topic!
