If you are a senior citizen in Pennsylvania, you will be happy to hear that there are a number of discounts and benefits afforded to you. Its city of Lancaster has also been voted as the second-best place to retire in the United States. With numerous retirement communities and veterans’ healthcare centers, one can see why a good portion of their population is aged 65 and above.

Read on to learn about some of the benefits you can receive if you are a senior in Pennsylvania, such as property tax, social security, pension, employment, and caregiver support:

Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

The Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program allows individuals to get around $250 to $650 in rebate. You can qualify if you are aged 65+, are a widow or widower aged 50+, have a disability aged 18+, or have annual household incomes below the indicated threshold.

Social Security

Many states in the US tax your social security income. This is not the case in Pennsylvania, where all income is fully exempt from Social Security taxes.

Pension

Like Social Security, pension in Pennsylvania is not taxed. If you are a retiree, you may receive pension benefits. Luckily, whether private or public pension income, this will remain intact unlike in other neighboring states. Additionally, seniors considering relocation might find it valuable to explore the unique senior benefits in Nevada, where tax advantages and supportive community initiatives contribute to a fulfilling retirement experience.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

The SCSEP gives low-income individuals who are at least 55 years of age a chance to work part-time in community service roles. You will then be paid according to the state or federal minimum wage.

Pennsylvania Caregiver Support Program

The Pennsylvania Caregiver Support Program gives financial reimbursement and support for some out-of-pocket caregiving expenses in the state.

These are just some of the many benefits in Pennsylvania, especially since it is one of the most senior-friendly states. If you want to learn more about senior benefits in California, check out the rest of Senior Strong today!
