The convenience of rail travel in Germany cannot be overstated, and a BahnCard is the perfect way to save money. The BahnCard is the ultimate in transportation, a time and money saver that can be used in trains across all of Europe. The cards come with three subscription levels:  BahnCard 100, BahnCard 50, and BahnCard 25. Depending on what your needs are, one card may suit your needs better than another.

Bahn Card offers 25% or 50% discounts for people aged 65 or above. Learn more about how seniors can make the most out of their BahnCard by reading below.

What Are the Perks of a BahnCard For Senior Citizens?

For those who are 60 years old and above, the BahnCard 25 and BahnCard 50 are your best bet. With these cards, travelers can get 25% or 50% discounts on flexible and saver fares within Germany. Prices for these cards start at €36.90 per year, which is a steal for those who travel frequently.

The BahnCard also allows you to save 25% on train fares to many European countries for cross-border travel. Keep in mind, however, that the card is not valid for further travel in a foreign country.

Where Do You Get the BahnCard?

The BahnCard 25 and 50 are available online, so you can get on the discounted train right away. You will receive your permanent card by mail to your home address or anywhere in Germany once you arrive.

The BahnCard 50 needs you to upload a photo for your card, while the BahnCard 25 doesn't. However, if your card is for personal use and not business purposes, then be sure to bring along your passport or an identity that has both your name and date of birth on it.

Are There Additional Bonuses With the BahnCard?

To collect points for each train ticket, a BahnCard owner can order a free BahnBonus card that they can present to cashiers whenever they are purchasing a ticket. The bonus points are valid three years from your registration date and redeemable in an extensive catalog of gifts and services offered by Deutsche Bahn as part of its rewards program.
