As people grow older, it can be more difficult to drive and travel around the world with limited vision and mobility. Luckily, there are plenty of public transportation options that provide special deals and discounts for seniors. Before buying a ticket or pass, it is best to ask whether there are any promotions being offered to those aged 62 and older.
Some transportation benefits for seniors include discounted fares on Greyhound buses, Amtrak routes, and the NJ Transit system. Many other states provide discounts for bus routes, train routes, and other forms of travel.
For senior passengers aged 62 and older, you can get a discount of 5% on tickets. All you need is a valid ID to prove your age. You can purchase tickets online or at the station.
For those aged 65 and older, Amtrak offers a 10% discount on most trains. They also offer a 10% senior discount to those aged 60 and over on cross-border services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada. While the cheapest rates are available online, you can also purchase tickets at the station.
Senior citizens aged 62+ and those with disabilities are eligible to take part in the reduced fare program in New Jersey’s transit system. You can save 50% or more on a regular one-way ticket. Even better, you don’t need to be a New Jersey resident to be eligible for the program.
