If you are a senior with a disability or on low income, there are a number of possible options for you to receive financial assistance. These financial benefits or programs range from employment, housing, medicine, education, and more.

Here are some the most popular options:

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

The Social Security Association (SSA) offers Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for those who are insured. Certain qualifications apply, from the amount of time you’ve worked to how recent you have worked. They may also check if you are diligent about paying your Social Security taxes.

SSDI also works like emergency health insurance, especially for those who cannot work from their disabilities, injuries, and the like. You will be able to get cash or benefits that are federally mandated.

Veteran Disability Compensation

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides compensation to veterans who have disabilities related to the services they have rendered or who have been discharged for honorable reasons. Disabilities include both mental and physical conditions and the amounts to be paid are dependent on the level of your disability as well.

In some cases, you may be able to get more compensation if your condition is severe, or if your family members or dependents are involved.

Medicaid

Low income individuals or families, individuals with disabilities, and seniors can get healthcare coverage from Medicaid. Medicaid is funded on both the federal- and state-level, with requirements differing based on the latter. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) may dictate the rules and qualifications per state.
