Amazon Prime Senior Discount: How To Take Advantage

With the holidays approaching, many seniors are looking for ways to stretch their budgets and get the most out of their retirement savings. One way to do this is by taking advantage of the Amazon Prime senior discount through the Prime Access program.

Here's everything you need to know about taking advantage of Prime Access to save on holiday shopping.

What Is The Amazon Prime Senior Discount?

What Is The Amazon Prime Senior Discount?

The senior discount is available as part of the Prime Access program. Seniors can access Amazon Prime benefits for $6.99 per month instead of $14.99 per month. With Amazon Prime, seniors will enjoy free two-day shipping on millions of items, access to exclusive deals and discounts, streaming of TV shows and movies, and more.

Amazon has hundreds of affordable items for seniors. That said, a discounted Amazon Prime membership will go a long way to reducing the expenses of purchasing these items.

However, to be eligible, you must be under a government assistance program like SNAP, TANF, SSI, Medicaid, and the like. You need an EBT card or letter upon signup. Currently, seniors not on any qualifying government assistance program won’t be able to take advantage of the discounted Amazon Prime access.

Those who won’t qualify can either try a 30-day free trial of the full Amazon Prime membership or get the Prime Student discount (in case you’re a senior in school).

What Are Some Other Benefits Of Amazon Prime?

There are many benefits to Amazon Prime that are worth the monthly signup fee. Even if you are using the discounted Prime Access, you can still get the same benefits as any Amazon Prime member. Below are some of the benefits you may enjoy:

  • Free 1-day shipping with no minimum purchase
  • Free same-day delivery for selected cities with purchases above $35
  • Access to Prime Video — a video streaming service where you can enjoy thousands of TV shows and movies
  • Access to Prime Reading — where you can read thousands of books even if you don’t have a Kindle (but must have the Kindle app installed on your device)
  • Access to Prime Music — where you can listen to thousands of ad-free music
  • Access to Prime Discount at Whole Foods — where you can get a 10% discount on selected items every week
  • Access to Amazon Prime Day — where there are thousands of items sold with exclusive discounts
  • Pay using SNAP EBT for selected groceries
  • Secure delivery and returns

As a Prime member, you can share these benefits with the rest of your household. They can also enjoy the same access to various Amazon Prime services and the same fast delivery.

How Do I Sign Up For The Amazon Prime Senior Discount?

To enjoy your senior discount, you must sign up for Prime Access. You can take advantage of a 30-day free trial to check if the service meets your needs. Before signing up, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements and have your EBT card ready.

When you’re all set, go to amazon.com/primeaccess and select “Start Your 30-Day Free Trial.” Follow the on-screen instructions. It will ask you to upload a photo of your EBT card or eligibility letter.

Once your eligibility has been verified, you'll be able to complete the sign-up process and start enjoying all the benefits of Amazon Prime at a discounted rate.

You need to reverify your eligibility every 12 months to continue receiving the special discount for up to four years. After that, you can sign up for another Prime membership account.
